GentleMAX Nd:YAG® Skin Tightening As you age your skin cells begin to thin, which makes your skin appear thinner as well. Every ten years the number of skin cells decreases by 10%. This makes it more difficult to repair any harm. Along with the thinning of skin cells, less collagen is produced causing wrinkles and sagging to occur and appear more visible. You can reduce these effects with the new GentleMAX Nd:YAG skin tightening treatment, a non-surgical treatment that takes approximately 30 minutes. It’s so advanced, there’s no recovery time. Read on to find out more details about this revolutionary technology.
How does the laser treatment work? The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deep into skin tissue, where it delivers a controlled amount of targeted therapeutic heat. Candela’s patented Dynamic Cooling Device tm (DCD tm) technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling burst of cryogen. Together, a long-pulse laser and DCD cooling offer optimal treatment with minimal side effects. What can I expect during treatment? Treatment will take place in your practitioner’s office. You will wear safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light. Your practitioner will guide the laser to the treatment areas with a small hand piece. Each laser pulse may be preceded and followed by a short pulse of cooling spray. A treatment usually takes between 30 to 45 minutes. Does it hurt? Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort resolves in several seconds. For all patients a topical anesthetic is used prior to treatment. Be sure to discuss this with your practitioner. How many sessions will I need? The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin, usually 4-6 sessions on average. How do I prepare for treatment? If you have had a history of perioral herpes, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed. Your skin should be thoroughly cleansed and dried, removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or self-tanning products before laser treatment. Patients should not have a sun tan on the intended treatment area. What precautions should I take after treatment? After laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). Your practitioners may advise additional precautions. Are there side effects? Your risks are minimal. Most patients experience a pink glow with a mild sunburn sensation after treatment. Am I a good candidate for treatment? Patients with facial implants or cosmetic tattoos should not be treated.
